So, we played at The Buffalo Bar on Sunday. It was pretty messy, even by our standards.

Oh and our friend Timid Heathen not only took the above two photos...she also filmed our last song of the night. That is not actually her real name, but it sounds cool, right. It's called Aaaargh! Nooooo! and is one of the songs off the record. Yup.

Tomorrow we're playing with Tigercats at The Betsey Trotwood Hope to see you there! /nik

27th April 2011

Did I mention that we're playing Indietracks? Well, we are. Yay!

We're also playing these two exciting shows in the next week or so!

There's posters and everything!

I wonder who the special guests might be. If it is the band that was originally asked then this will be quite a special show. Yup. You should come.

Hope to see you at either or both of those! We're even having a band practise tonight to ensure my keyboard skills are up to scratch :) /nik

I HAVE CREATED A MONSTER!

Well, at the moment it's just a fairly rubbish repetitive monster, but eventually it might become a bonafide bleep-boom-magic-monster. After buying a Game Boy and an LSDJ cartridge for making music, I spent most of last weekend trying to figure out how to use it. Having no particular musical skills didn't help and being rubbish with numbers didn't help either. But, we got there in the end. I managed to make some sounds. For those interested, you can download my first ever attempt at making music using a Game Boy HERE. Next Moustache song will definitely have some Game Boy music in it. Yup.

In other news, I think we are playing at the Betsey Trotwood on Thursday 6th May. Only problem with that is that 6th May is a Friday, so it might actually be 5th May. I should probably find out.

Finally, this is awesome:

That is all for now. Hmmmmm. /nik

30th March 2011

Things are slowly starting to move in Moustache Land. The Fika cassette is pretty much sold out in shops and online, so if you're still looking to buy one you're best off emailing us directly. We have a bunch to sell at shows and stuff. Shows...that's right. We do have a few things coming up. On Sunday 1st May we'll be playing at the Buffalo Bar in London. Also on the bill are our friends Shrag, who are really awesome. At some point in early May we'll hopefully also play the Tigercats EP launch party. Details haven't been finalised yet, so keep checking back or 'like' us on Facebook to make sure you don't miss out. Tigercats are awesome!

Album news. The album has been recorded and mixed. We are currently working on the artwork and are hoping to release it in the summer by PYT Records, which is run by our lovely friends Dan and Hannah in Manchester. There's not really much else to say about it at the moment. It's going to be called Album Of Death and the tracklisting is:

1. Intro
2. Talk-along
3. We Need More Awesome
4. Dinner Party
5. Lynn Lowry
6. Aaaaargh! Nooooo!
7. <UP><DOWN><RIGHT><LEFT>
8. Superiority Complex
9. Dancing With Emma
10. Alright!
11. Laughing Scales
12. Battery
13. 16,000 km (bleep monster version)

We've been playing a couple of those songs live at the past few shows and will try to learn some more for the next ones.

Anyway. Hope to see you at a Moustache show in the not too distant future! /nik

16th February 2011

The new website is getting awesomer and awesomer by the minute...or regularly getting awesomer anyway.

Our cassette EP was released on Saturday. It's now available for you to buy, either by visiting the Fika Recordings website or by emailing us.

Either way, I think it's about three shiny pounds and one shiny fifty pence piece. Unless you live in a far away land. Then it'll be more expensive. Email and we'll discuss this further.

We celebrated this momentous occasion with a big extravaganca at the Wilmington Arms (again!). Here are two photos taken by Nelson.

I have no idea what's up with Bill's face in that photo, but it's damn intense.

Bill is currently away on tour with Allo Darlin', so we're gonna be taking it a bit easy for a while. He's back in five weeks, so maybe we'll sort something out then. Yes. /nik

22nd January 2011

New website slowly getting there. I wish I wasn't so shit at Dreamweaver. if someone wants to give me a crash course, do get in touch. /nik

19th January 2011

Here it is. We've put up a new free download. It's a track called What's The Point? and is on our upcoming EP, Moustache Dammit! You can download it from the media section. or the releases page. The front cover looks like this!

The cassette will be released on 12th February 2011 by Fika Recordings. They're lovely. /nik

17th January 2011

We did it! It was bloody hard work, but we got there in the end. Six brand new songs written, recorded and mixed in about 36 hours. I might put up a sample later. It's been a while since we shared some new stuff with the world. Here's Bill doing some backing vocals in "the studio" (also known as my spare room). /nik

12th January 2011

Happy New Year!!! It's 2011 and gosh darnit do we have alot of things to be excited about in Moustache land. First of all, we have recorded our album! Yay! 12 songs, covering topics such as dinner parties, the movie Predator, bathroom scales, batteries and horror movies. We are trying to find some time to do the last bits of mixing and adding some magical Casio bits and bobs and then BOOM! it will be ready. Well, we still need to make the artwork, have it pressed and figure out how little we can charge without bankrupting ourselves. I guess you can expect it to be available in April or thereabouts. But, you don't have to wait that long for new material. Nope. On the 12th of February we will be releasing a cassette on London DIY label Fika Recordings. Ours will contain around 20 minutes of brand new songs. And it's not just a case of album leftovers. These are songs that in some cases haven't even been written yet! We're recording them this weekend! I have alot of ideas and I know Bill has alot as well, so we're going to lock ourselves in my spare room and record them the oldschool way. We always worked best under pressure. And hopefully Bill's laptop can handle it. Fika Recordings are hosting a release party on 12th February at The Wilmington Arms.

That is an awesome robot-tastic poster! Hmmmm. But I think that's about it for now. /Nik

3rd December 2010
Alot is going in Moustache land at the moment. We're going into the studio tomorrow, to record what will hopefully amount to an album...or at least a very long EP.

Last night we played at The Hideaway in Archway. It was a lovely night, with our friends Enderby's Room and Dan of Green Gables also playing. Beacuse of the nature of the evening, we decided to play a mellow set and it worked surprisingly well. I've put some videos up on the media page. They were shot by a girl called Eccy and the sound is pretty good actually.
Next Friday we'll be playing our last show of the year. It's at Fuzzystar's Christmas Party at The Wilmington Arms. Our good friends Hexicon are also playing. It should be an awesome night. Expect plenty of Christmas covers and other jolly stuff. There's a facebook event page and everything. Hope to see you there! /Nik
18th October 2010
Whilst Bill Moustache is in the US drinking pumpin beer and being a pop star with Allo Darlin', I'm being busy writing new songs for our mammooth recording session in December. Oh and I'm also guest DJ-ing at Scared To Dance at the King's Cross Social Club on Saturday 30th October. You should come down. It'll be fun...I hope...I have no idea what to play :)
Our friend Grant Wilkinson took this pretty photo of Bill at our Macbeth show last month. He's a talented bunny indeed.
Hmmm....we have some shows coming up before the end of the year, all in London. So, keep an eye out for more info here.
Ninja! /Nik
15th September 2010
Some quick things. On Friday, we'll be playing in Sheffield with Allo Darlin' and Standard Fare. This will be our last show for a while, so if you're in the area you should come down to The Red House.
We have booked some studio time for December, to try and record an album. That's right. An ALBUM...in a STUDIO...we might actually end up with some songs that doesn't have any peaking or popping. That would be weird. I wouldn't worry too much about it though...I imagine it'll be as shambolic as ever. No songs have been written yet, so we're gonna take it a bit easy and just try to write some....well I am anyway...Bill will be mega busy playing indie pop star all over the planet with Allo Darlin.
The Tullycraft compilation is now out. We have a couple of physical copies for sale, so get in touch if you want one. It's got a bunch of awesome songs on it. Price? Hmmm....£10 (including postage)? Does that sound fair. It is very nice and shiny. So there. /Nik
1st September 2010
Things are moving very slowly in Moustache land. We've had a busy summer and it's been a mixture of highs and lows, fun and frustration.
Here's a video from our gig at Cosy Den in Stockholm.
We have a couple of gigs in September and then we'll see what happens. Bill is going to be mega busy with Allo Darlin' so we'll be a bit quiet for a while. But then we'll be back....we might even have some new recordings! That's the plan.
So, we're playing in London on Tuesday 7th September. It's at The Macbeth in Shoreditch and should be alot of fun, so please come down. Then on 17th September we're playing at The Red House in Sheffield with Allo Darlin and Standard Fare. Yay!
That's about it for now. /Nik
15th June, 2010
So much stuff to tell you about...America was great. The New York Popfest saw Moustache at their most shambolic. Yup, it was quite possibly the messiest set we've ever played. But people seemed to enjoy it.
We have a bunch of exciting shows coming up. We're playing How Does It Feel at JAMM in Brixton next week, which is our first London gig since February and should be alot of fun. Then it's time for a bunch of fun shows in July before heading to Sweden to do a few dates with The Smittens and Allo Darlin'.
Hopefully, we should have some new songs for you soon. Feels like we've been playing the same songs forever.
We now have a limited number of physical copies of the Postcards EP for sale. And there's t-shirts as well. Hand-screenprinted in my living room. Woot. Postcards EP is £3 and the shirts are £5 I guess....plus postage. I think we have sizes S, M and L available, but they're a bit weird (the sizes, not the shirts) so it's more like M, L and XL. They're bright yellow with red print. Yup. Email us if you want to get your hands on one. /Nik
10th May, 2010
Excitement galore! We are joing Allo Darlin' and The Smittens for a few shows in Sweden and will also play the Cosy Den Festival while we're in Sweden. Some of my best memories of last summer are from Gula Villan last year, so it's gonna be very exciting to play there. Yay! /Nik
22nd April, 2010
Aloha. Exciting news. Physical copies of the Postcards To Strangers EP is now available to buy. We assembled them on the London-Nottingham train on the weekend and they look rather swell.
Nottingham show was ace. A bit strange playing in a cafe sans alcohol, but we've played stranger places...MUCH STRANGER places.
Now it looks we're taking it a bit easy until our US stint. No gigs planned at the moment. But, if anyone would like to have us play their town/party/picnic/BBQ/backyard/bedroom drop us an email and we'll see what we can do. /Nik
7th April, 2010
Things have been a bit quiet in Moustache land recently, but we are still here.
More shows have been booked. We're playing in Nottingham next week and returning to Brighton in July. And there's a third US date. Check the gigs page for details.
The Tullycraft compilation is almost done as well and it's looking awesome!
Go to the Kickstarter page above and pledge some money if you can. It's basically like pre-ordering, but you won't get charged until they reach their goal and if they do you get t-shirts and stuff, depending on how much you pledged. Sounds like a good idea to me.
24th February, 2010
So, we are slowly but surely coming out from hibernation. We're still taking things a bit slow, but at least we now have two shows coming up....and they're both in the US of A. Yaaaaaaaaay! Yes that's right, we're playing at the New York Pop Fest and we're pretty damn excited about it. We're also playing at least one other US show with Allo Darlin' and The Smittens. Yay again! Yay! /Nik

27th January, 2010
Had the very first Moustache session last night. We finished recording our cover of The Punks Are Writing Love Songs for an upcoming American Tullycraft compilation we've been asked to be on.

Bill laying down some rockin' bass parts last night. Yay!
That's about it at the moment. Waiting to get confirmation for some awesome things that are a bit up in the air, but as soon as we know, I'm certainly gonna share it with the world. /Nik

19th January, 2010
OK, so the line up for the show in February has been confirmed and it's a cracker.
Yay! Tickets are available from wegottickets.com /Nik

18th January, 2010
Happy New Year, kids! It's been a quiet start to this Moustache year, but now we're ready to get going again. First show of the year should be at Bardens Boudoir on 9th February. It's a fundraiser to help our dear friends Allo Darlin' raise some money for their trip to Austin, Texas in in US of A. They've been selected for the mega festival that is South By South West, which is rather exciting. Well done, darlin's! The line-up may or may not be a bit hush-hush still, so I won't give too much away...but one thing is certain..it will be awesome, so come down to Stokey. Yay!
We've also started working on our Tullycraft cover and will hopefully be finishing off the recording in the next week or so. I have no idea when this tribute CD will be out, but last time I checked a bunch of awesometastic bands were involved.
The last EP keeps getting downloaded and the last time I checked it was pushing 250 downloads! Thanks you guys! This is pretty amazing for us, so I think we'll just leave it up there. We will still make hard copies at some point soon as well.
So there. I think that's about it for now. /Nik

16th December, 2009
This is it, the last post of the year. And I bring good news, freebies even. Our new EP was finally revealed to the world on Monday and so far the response has been great. It was downloaded 50+ times in the first 40 hours, which is pretty awesome, we both think.

DOWNLOAD THE WHOLE 'POSTCARDS TO STRANGERS' EP FOR FREE
Let us know what you think and as usual, feel free to share the link or individual songs on blogs etc. Yay! That's all for now. See you all in 2010. Have an awesome Christmas/New Year/Whatever! /Nik and Bill

11th December, 2009
We're playing at the Duke of Uke this evening! It's the launch party for the awesometastic new Allo Darlin' single and we're super excited about being part of that! Yay! Duke events are always alot of fun, so you should definitely try to come down for this one. Remember the shop is tiny, so get there early to guarantee entry! Doors at 7:30 ish. And best of all, IT'S FREE!!!! /Nik

9th December, 2009
It's December! That means the annual Santa visit is just around the corner. He's a good guy, so there should still be time to work yourselves of the naughty list. Me and Bill are pretty safe, I think. But, we'll try to stay nice just in case.
We played our last show of 2009 last week. It was at Proud Galleries in Camden and alot of fun, but a bit weird. Big stage, big sound and a shitload of pictures of the Kings of Leon on the walls. Hmmmm. Not really my thing. Anyway, thanks to every that came down.
In August we did an acoustic live session for Off The Beaten Tracks in Edinburgh and they have finally put the session up on their website.
You can watch the session here. It actually turned out ok, much better than expected. And we get a nice write-up as well. Yay!
We're having our last recording session/practise of the year, which means the new EP should be ready next week!!!! I'll let you know. /Nik

19th November, 2009
Just a quick not to say that tonight's show has been cancelled. Apparently Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes have pulled the plug on all live music. That's about it.
However, all is not lost. We are playing at Bardens Boudoir next Wednesday (25th Nov) together with New York legends of craziness, Dufus. It should be an awesome show, so come down and join the fun. /Nik

3rd November, 2009
The EP is taking shape. We've now recorded four songs and with any luck we'll get another two down this evening. I'm also starting to get excited about the artwork and stuff. More details coming soon.
Two shows coming up in the next month. On 19th October, we're playing at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes. For this show we've been given some cheap advance tickets to sell, so if anyone would like to save a few quid send us an email and we'll sort you out. I think the cheapo ones are £5 from us. On 3rd December we're playing at Proud Galleries, which should also be an awesome show. Hopefully the EP will be finished in time for these shows. /Nik

7th October, 2009
So, we have a gig tonight. It's at The Star of Bethnal Green (formerly The Pleasure Unit), which is quite a rockin' place. You should come down. It'll be fun.
In other news, we recorded a rather shouty version of Postcards For Strangers last night. It sounds cool, I hope. So, yes. The work on the next EP has begun. Woo-zaa. /Nik

29th September, 2009
Last night we had our first band practise for at least two months. It was messy and not terribly productive, unless drinking a case of beer and eating sour strawberry laces counts as productive, in which case it was an extremely successful practise. We made a start on our contribution for the upcoming Tullycraft compilation and it's pretty random. Will be interesting to hear what it sounds like in a sober state.
Anyway, tomorrow we're going to Northampton for a show at The Nook Cafe. If anyone's in the area, please drop by and join the fun. Woot! /Nik

22nd September, 2009
This morning I found out that some Moustache footage from Indietracks can be found on youtube. Check Recordsmakegreatpets for more details. The clips are from our second set on the train and there's the whole of Imagine and the messy ending of I Like These Shoes. Haha. /Nik

10th September, 2009
It's very quiet in Moustache land at the moment. Bill is busy being a pop star, so we're taking it a bit easy. If you're going to End Of The Road you can see him playing bass with Darren Hayman on the main stage at some point.
I have written a bunch of new songs and hopefully we should be able to get a recording session sorted for the beginning of October.
Until then, I guess I can entertain myself by making songs on my laptop. I've put two songs up on my other myspace. One of them is Yellow T-shirt, which is an old Moustache song that we used to play live back in the olden days. We recorded it once, but something went wrong, so it was kind of buried and we haven't touched it since. Anyway, the other day I re-recorded it on my own in my living room. So there. /Nik

3rd September, 2009
Scottish freebie street mag The Skinny has gone from friend to foe in the space of two issues...or perhaps this last thing was just online...how would I know? I don't live there. In their preview of the Retreat! Festival they name-checked us as having "clearly the best band name ever", which was all jolly good. Unfortunately, they weren't too impressed with our performance in Edinburgh. Not only did they call us confusing and describied our singing as "at times face-stretchingly uncomfortable" they also managed to accuse us of writing "comically about killing squirrels". Read the whole thing here. Hmmm. /Nik

1st September, 2009
The gig at the Buffalo Bar on Friday went really well. We didn't miss up too much and didn't argue that much. Woot! What the hell is happening to us? Thanks to everyone who came/said nice things/bought CD's etc.

Someone else also took some photos - http://www.flickr.com/photos/acb/tags/moustacheofinsanity/.
We don't have anything lined up until the end of the month and with Bill being super busy in September with Darren Hayman things it'll most likely stay that way. We're still hoping to get together to do some recording at some point, though. /Nik

27th August, 2009
A couple of things. We are playing in Northampton on 30th September. My only previous experiences from Northampton are from selling (well, trying to sell) garden furniture in a shopping centre. Hopefully, the gig will be more fun. I'm pretty sure it will.
When we played in Edinburgh the other week, I did an interview with Fresh Air student radio. I also played 16,000km live in the studio (first time ever without Bill). You can listen to the interview and song here.
We also recorded a session for Off The Beaten Tracks, a web-video-session, similar to The Takeaway shows in France. It was fun and we almost got killed by a crazy junkie. The session should be up in the next month. I'll keep you posted.
Also, just thought I would share some links to two completely random sites where we've been mentioned recently:

The National (Dubai newspaper)
Amnesty blog

It's all very strange. Yes. The moustache works in mysterious ways. /Nik

24th August, 2009
I thought maybe it would be useful to have a news section. Or, well, perhaps not useful...but at least it would be something that actually changed on this website. Perhaps. Like today I put up three flyers on the flyers page. Woot! How would you have known that if I hadn't told you? The wonders of the internet. /Nik
